New Delhi: Disappointed with their team's dismal show in the ongoing ODI series against India, several of Zimbabwe fans protested from the stands during the 2nd ODI played at the Harare Sports Club on Monday.
A much better show was expected by Graeme Cremer and his men post a humiliating nine-wicket loss against the Men in Blue in the first ODI.
And as the scoreboard read 106/3 in the second match, the hosts were looking all set to regain some lost pride in front of their fans.
But that was not the case as Yuzvendra Chahal picked two wickets off consecutive balls in the 26th over, which led to another batting collapse, and in a matter of another 20 minutes, all the cricketers were walking back to their dressing rooms as it was the end of the first innings.
According to a report in The Indian Express, fans felt betrayed with their team's performance and expressed their sentiments through several placards which read:
"Zim cricket players should be arrested and face treason."
“We Cannot support disaster, catastrophe, quagmire of epic proportions.”
“What a disgrace do you have love for fans?”
The players too, were aware of their fans anger.
"I heard some of the words that came out and they’re obviously not nice. We’re representing our country and they’re as disappointed as we are," top-order batsman Vusu Sibanda said afterwards.
"We want them to stand by us when things aren’t going well so we can pull in the same direction, because otherwise we can’t achieve anything."
