No Indian cricket team member involved in rape case in Zimbabwe: BCCI president Anurag Thakur

New Delhi: Hours after the shocking news emerged in Indian media that a member of Indian contingent touring Zimbabwe was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in team hotel, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur on Sunday dismissed the reports by saying that there is no truth in this allegation.

While talking to ANI, Thakur said: “No one from Indian team is involved in incident.”

India’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe also cleared the air by saying that there is no cricketer from the touring team was involved in the incident.

Earlier, according to a report in the New Zimbabwe website, a member of the Indian cricket contingent was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a Zimbabwean woman.

The report claimed that the incident occurred at Meikles hotel in Central Harare, and the news was confirmed by Assistant Police Commissioner Charity Charamba.

“The victim has pointed an Indian national from the batch that came in last week, at this point I’m not in the position to reveal whether it’s a player or official as I’m bound by law. But, what I can confirm is that the accused appeared in court on Saturday,” said Charamba.

“We have concluded our investigation, but both the police and courts have to handle the issue with care as it can lead to a potential diplomatic feud.” she added.
