Will step down as HPCA boss if I am roadblock between India-Pakistan match in World T20: Anurag Thakur

New Delhi: Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur on Wednesday said he would step down if he is the roadblock between the much-awaited India-Pakistan clash in ICC World Twenty20.

Speaking on the sidelines of a programme in Shimla, Thakur, who is also a BJP MP, said he would do whatever it takes for the interest of the state.

“If I am the roadblock, I am willing to step-down from HPCA post even today,” Anurag said. “It is a world event not a bilateral series. I will go to any extent to request anyone with folded hands in the interest of Himachal Pradesh,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustantimes.com.

Thakur also appealed the state to keep all the political differences aside.

“If they (state) is against HPCA, forget it for the time being. Court Cases are pending, inquiries are pending, I’m ready to step-down but please don’t let Himachal suffer.”

Earlier on Tuesday, chief minister Virbhadra Singh had raised concerns over the match and had refused to provide security for the marquee clash.
