New Delhi: Rising Australian speedster Josh Hozlewood took the cricket fraternity by surprise on Tuesday as he clocked 164 kmph – which made him the fastest bowler in Test match history.

On the final day of the 2nd Test against West Indies, in his second over of the day, Hazlewood's delivery to Windies opener Rajendra Chandrika stunned everybody watching the game as it was recorded as the fastest ball in the history of the sport as the official broadcaster Channel 9’s speedometer clocked 164.2 kmph (102 mph).

It even surpassed Shoaib Akhtar’s record of 161.3 kmph by a fair margin.

The fans were surprised with the result and Cricket Australia went a step further and speculated a technical glitch in the speedometer.

Later, the broadcasters Wide World Of Sports clarified that the speed was a result of a technical glitch with the speedometer technology.
