Sundar Raman, tainted IPL franchises face uncertain future

New Delhi: A lot of serious challenges await newly elected BCCI president Shashank Manohar in his second innings as the Indian board's boss.

Among the high-profile issues that need addressing from the 58-year-old are taking a call on the future of Sundar Raman and the two tainted IPL franchises - Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.

Manohar had earlier criticized the board's decision retain Raman post the 2013 IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal. 

“Raman should have gone immediately after the Mudgal Committee report found him prima facie guilty of wrongdoings. He ought to have stepped down immediately at that time. Now, to restore the faith of people in IPL and the game, Raman needs to go,” Manohar was quoted as saying by the Indian Express on July 19, 2015.

Raman is currently under investigation in connection with the 2013 IPL corruption scandal. He was absent during at the BCCI office over the weekend.

Whether the new BCCI chief waits for the Supreme Court-directed investigation involving the IPL COO to complete or ends his contract immediately remains to be seen.

"It is hardly 25 minutes since I have taken over. You can't expect me to look into all the board records, all the board papers and tell you what decision the board is going to take," Manohar told TOI with regards to his opinion on the two IPL franchises that are in the dock.
