Six record-breaking facts from Ben Stokes blistering double ton!

New Delhi: While playing a counter-attacking innings of 258 runs on Sunday against South Africa on the 2nd day of 2nd Test, England all-rounder Ben Stokes broke many records.

Here are six records swashbuckling Stokes made during his sensational maiden double century:

Stokes slammed the 2nd fastest double ton in the history of Test cricket as the right-hander reached the landmark in mere 163 balls, laced with 25 boundaries and seven sixes. Record for the fastest double century is still with New Zealander Nathan Astle, who took just 153 balls to reach the 200-run mark in March 2002 against England in Christchurch.

This makes him England's fastest double centurion. Earlier, the record was with Ian Botham who hit a double century off 220 balls against India at The Oval in July 1982.

Stokes is the only England batsman and second overseas player to score a double century in Cape Town, Newlands.

Stokes becomes the third England player to notch up a double century in Tests, while playing in South Africa. Eddie Paynter's 243 in Durban and John Edrich 219 on the same ground are the other two in the list.

The hard-hitting batsman now holds the record for the highest individual score for any Englishman batting at No 6 in Tests.

The 399-run partnership between Stokes and Jonny Bairstow is the highest sixth-wicket partnership for England in Tests.
