Mumbai: Pranav Dhanawade, who recently hammered a record-shattering 1009-run knock in an inter-school game, was on Wednesday honoured by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

The 15-year-old Kalyan boy from the KC Gandhi school, his coach Mobin Sheikh and the opponent team's (Arya Gurukul) coach were all honoured by the MCA, led by president Sharad Pawar.

Chief guest and former Test opener Madhav Apte gave a cheque of Rs 1.2 lakh to the Mumbai teenager, who is the son of an autorickshaw driver, on behalf of the association which has decided to support Dhanawade for the next five years with a monthly gratis of Rs 10,000.

On Day 2 of the Bhandari Trophy tournament, Pranav went on to break the 1000-run barrier, becoming the first cricketer ever to slam a four-digit score.

He remained unbeaten on 652 thereby breaking the record of AEJ Collins who scored an unbeaten 628 in a club match in England in 1899.
