New Delhi: Sri Lankan speedster Lasith Malinga has been ruled out of Sri Lanka's remaining ODIs and T20Is against New Zealand.

The news came after the 32-year-old failed to recover from a knee injury he sustained during West Indies' tour of Sri Lanka in October and November.

Earlier it was reported that the seamer might miss out on just the first two ODIs.

Malinga's injury has come as a huge blow to the team, after Dhammika Prasad was previously ruled out through injury, while Kusal Perera was suspended after testing positive for banned substances.

Dinesh Chandimal will now replace Malinga as the T20 captain.

New Zealand have already taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series after winning first two matches comprehensively by 7 and 10 wickets respectively.

The two-match T20I series is scheduled to be played from January 7.
