New Delhi: Known for making startling comments, Javed Miandad reportedly made another shocking remark on Sunday, saying "India could not be trusted to keep its commitment".
With the proposed India-Pakistan series unlikely to happen any time soon, comments after comments continue to hit headlines. Miadad's derisive statement may well prove to be another case of sour grapes, but the Pakistan legend has certainly crossed all permissible lines.
“What kind of attitude has been adopted by India? It is always India that has created problems for cricketing ties between the two countries,” the report in Dawn outed Miandad as saying.
Miandad said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials wanted to get things done their way, and ‘they had always tried to let down Pakistan’.
“Despite their commitment, the PCB officials tried their best to settle the matter with mutual understanding,” he said.
In September, the 58-year-old advised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to stop running after the BCCI, and accused Indian leaders and ministers of making inflammatory statements.
He also claimed that India are afraid of losing to Pakistan.
The Narendra Modi-led government in India is reluctant to renew the cricketing ties between the two trouble neighbours. Despite the widely reported agreement between the two cricket boards for a short ODI series in Sri Lanka this December, the BCCI is yet to received clearance from the Indian government. And many believed the series is as good as dead.
