New Delhi: Former Australia and Netherlands pacer Dirk Nannes on Wednesday hit out at Mohammad Azharuddin just as his biopic is set to hit theaters.
The left-arm pacer, who is in India for TV with the IPL, took to social micro-blogging site Twitter to express shock over the 'royal' treatment being meted out to the former India captain.
The 39-year-old termed Azhar as a 'confessed match fixer' and wondered how he was being welcomed on cricket shows to promote his film.
Why is a confessed match fixer welcomed on a cricket show and treated like royalty? How is that even possible? — Dirk Nannes (@dirk_nannes) May 11, 2016
Expectedly, several Indian cricket fans made arguments in favor of Azhar. However, Nannes then went on to share several media reports to assert his point about Azhar's guilt.
@im_afsi He was NEVER cleared. His punishment was declared illegal, and the ban lifted rather than found innocent. https://t.co/uLGnuEePz5 — Dirk Nannes (@dirk_nannes) May 11, 2016
@ashwin91 The ban itself was declared illegal, he was never found not guilty! NEVER cleared. He confessed - FACT: https://t.co/JShsusqhhc — Dirk Nannes (@dirk_nannes) May 11, 2016
@ImRaviS009 I will take a court document and confession as proof ... If you think his own scripted movie is truth, you have problems! — Dirk Nannes (@dirk_nannes) May 11, 2016
Azharuddin’s biopic is co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, with Emran Hashmi playing the lead role.
