New Delhi: The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) chief executive Dave Richardson on Monday stated that West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle’s controversial post-match comments during Big Bash League could have been avoided.
“Gayle comments in BBL could have been avoided. But I think cricket does not need to worry about it. Cricket can easily move on from here on without worrying,” said Richardson at a press conference.
It's possibly the first direct or indirect statement made by the ICC chief executive on the burning issue, which took the cricket world by storm.
Gayle created global headlines when he acted inappropriately while speaking to female reporter Ben McLaughlin during the Melbourne Renegades’ win over the Hobart Hurricanes last week.
However, he later made an apology to McLaughlin and escaped with a fine of $10,000 by the Renegades.
