Australia's David Warner surpasses 1500 T20I career runs

New Delhi: Australia's David Warner added another feather to his cap after surpassing 1500 T20I career runs on Sunday. He achieved the feat against South Africa in the 2nd Twenty20 match played at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Warner, who came on to bat at No. 4 for the Aussies, needed just 15 runs to get to the mark. He became the seventh player in the shortest format to achieve the feat.

Warner, who went on to slam a brilliant 77 runs off just 40 deliveries, surpassed Pakistan's Mohammed Hafeez (1545) and South Africa's JP Duminy (1570) in the process.

Warner is now the fifth highest scorer in T20I cricket. This was his 56th T20I match and he now has 1578 runs to his name.

Australia were struggling at 32/3 at one stage in pursuit of a mammoth 205 runs in 20 overs. Warner alongside Glenn Maxwell added 161 runs between them to hunt down the Proteas bowling attack.

He was finally out when Kagiso Rabada cleaned him up in the final over. Australia went on to win the match by five wickets and leveleed the 3-match T20 series at 1-1.

Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum is the leading scorer in Twenty20 internationals with 2140 runs.
