3rd T20I: India beat Australia by 7 wickets, complete series whitewash

New Delhi: Senior pros in Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh kept their cool in the death overs to help India beat Australia in a thriller by seven wickets in the third and last T20 at Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.

And with that visitors have managed to complete a series whitewash Down Under, and in a way took the revenge of their 1-4 ODI series defeat to the Aussies.

Chasing 197, India needed 17 runs in the last over to seal the match with veteran batsmen Yuvraj and Raina in the middle.

Yuvraj set the tempo by hitting the first two balls for a boundary and six to collect ten runs off Andrew Tye's over. Raina then collected two doubles as the equation went down to two from the last ball.

Raina slapped the last ball towards point region to hit the winning boundary.

While chasing a mammoth total of 197 runs, Indian top-order once again gave a solid start as Rohit Sharma (52) and Virat Kohli (50) slammed fifties.

Earlier, Shane Watson, who was heading the side in the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner, played a captain's knock by smashing an excellent ton (124) to power Australia to 197.

It's a memorable series win for Team India as they not only beat Australia in all three T20 games but also proved that they are front runners to win the forthcoming ICC World T20 World Cup starting from March.

This is also India's highest run-chase ever on Australian soil.

The win also promoted Mahendra Singh Dhoni's boys to the top of the ICC T20 rankings and they now lead the table in the shortest and the longest format.
