Wasim Akram slams PCB for probing Pakistan's Asia Cup debacle, chastises fans for mocking team

New Delhi: Legendary pace bowler Wasim Akram on Saturday slammed the formation of an inquiry committee by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to probe into the team's poor show in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh.

He also chastised Pakistan fans for mocking their national cricket team.

"I don't understand the purpose of announcing a probe committee when the national team is due to leave for India for the World T20," Akram told a news conference in Karachi,.

Pakistan finished third in the five-team competition, and lost to arch-rivals India and Bangladesh. The Shahid Afridi-led side, however, ended the campaign on a winning note by defeating Sri Lanka in the last of round-robin league games by six wickets yesterday.

Akram, who recently helped Islamabad United franchise win the inaugural Pakistan Super League in Dubai, also questioned PCB's decision.

"I don't agree with this thinking. This decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board to evaluate the team's performance in the Asia Cup at this time... It does not make sense as the World T20 is just a few days away," he said.

Talking about the fan's attitude towards the national team, he said, "People should be ashamed at making fun of our team."
