Asia Cup 2016: Blow for Bangladesh as Shakib Al Hasan sustains thigh muscle injury ahead of finale

New Delhi: The Bangladesh camp has been hit with a big blow ahead of their enticing Asia Cup Twenty20 final against India on Sunday in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Classy all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has sustained a "left hip-flex injury" in a training session.

The side's physio Bayjedul Islam has confirmed that Shakib was hurt on Friday and the injury needs 48 hours to heal. He could be available for the game.

"Shakib has sustained a hip-flex injury after being hit by a delivery during yesterday's net session. These injuries in common language can be termed as thigh-muscle injury. These are known as 'conditional injuries', which normally heals in 48 hours. Today during option practice, he felt the pain again and didn't practice much. But we are hoping that he will play tomorrow," the physio said.

Shakib looked in pain and was seen limping on Saturday as well according to reports.

Bangladesh are in a huge dilemma in deciding whether to play Shakib in Sunday's match and risk aggravating his injury before the World T20 qualifiers in Dharamsala.

The pysio also hoped that Shakib does not need medication be it painkillers or injection as it doesn't suit everybody.

"Medication can be taken but it may or may not work for a particular individual. Let us hope and pray that he will be okay without any need for medication."
