AB de Villiers: Amid retirement rumours, can he save 1st Test for South Africa against England?

New Delhi: There have been lot of talks about AB de Villiers retiring from Test cricket after the ongoing England tour in the last few days. But amid all those speculations, it remains to be seen whether the champion batsman can save another Test match for South Africa.

The Hashim Amla-led side are in dire straits in first Test against Alastair Cook & Co, after they were reduced to 136/4 at stumps on Day 4 of the Durban Test. Steven Finn added to the woes of the struggling Proteas with his three-wicket haul on the penultimate day of the Test.

Despite being given a healthy start of 53 runs for the opening wicket by Dean Elgar and Stiaan van Zyl, the hosts lost three quick wickets of Amla (12), Dean Elgar (40) and Faf du Plessis (9) in quick succession.

Now all eyes would be on the Superman of modern-day cricket, who was unbeaten on 37. Dale Steyn was there to given him company, but since the speedster has once again injured himself, not much can be expected from him in terms of scoring runs.

De Villiers was one of the rare South African batsmen to score two formidable knocks in the recently concluded four-match Test series against India, which was comprehensively won by Virat Kohli-led India.

South Africa are trailing by 280 runs, and with just six wickets remaining, it would be a miracle if AB can save another Test for his team.
