New Delhi: NASA's Cassini mission's aim of investigating Saturn is truly a fruitful one, owing to all the wonderfully insightful information it has managed to beam back to scientists.

The Cassini spacecraft, which is doing its duty of probing the planet and its moons, has delivered amazing revelations, which has helped scientists understand its structure and evolution better.

In one of the latest images captured by Cassini, an ethereal orb-like glow can be seen on Saturn's B ring.

To us laymans, it may seem strange and out of place, but for scientists at NASA, the glow holds an interesting reason.

As per NASA, the 'glow' is the result of an "opposition surge", which makes the area on the rings appear extra bright.

This means that the sun is directly behind the observer looking toward the rings. The particular geometry of this observation makes the point in the rings appear much, much brighter than would otherwise be expected.

The US space agency further explained the image, saying that, this view looks toward the sunlit side of the rings from about 28 degrees above the ring plane. The image was taken in visible light with the Cassini wide-angle camera on June 26, 2016.
