New Delhi: The phenomenon that is created by the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is gorgeous to say the least.

For those unaware, Aurora Borealis is a stunning light show, caused when electrically charged particles released from the Sun enters the Earth's atmosphere and collide with gases such as oxygen and nitrogen.

This sight is seen around the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres and this time around, the occurrence was predicted to take place last Wednesday.

The city of Reykjavik in Iceland switched off all its streetlights to let people witness the surreal view. Not just that, but the city council also urged people to turn off their lights at home to get a better view.

An astronomer by the name of Helgi Bragason has been kind enough to make a time-lapse video, for those who missed it, of the magnificent scene when the Northern Lights paid a visit to city of Reykjavik. The video was posted on one Hotel Ranga's Facebook page.

Have a look! It is beautiful beyond imagination!
