1000 asteroids heading towards Earth; conspiracy theorists claim end of the world is near! - Watch video

New Delhi: Is doomsday near? It suddenly feels like 2012 again, because as per conspiracy theorists, the end of the world is upon us ever since reports of potential asteroid impact started doing the rounds.
Conspiracy theorists are having a field day ever since reports of 1000 asteroids heading towards Earth surfaced. It is being said that these asteroids are travelling near Earth at a speed of 60,000 miles per hour.
On Tuesday, reports pointed at four asteroids that were travelling uncomfortably close to the Earth and now, conspiracy theorists claim that more are waiting to be discovered in the next few years.
NASA's recently launched OSIRIS-REx mission that aims to conduct a comprehensive surface mapping of the asteroid Bennu, as well as collecting samples, will help scientists learn more about the space rocks, the evolution of the universe and the planet. Besides that, delving into the composition and structure of an asteroid might also help experts improve their ability to predict future impact from space rocks.
Conspiracy theorists, however, interpret this mission as a prophecy that predicts the end of the world. As per a report in Nature World News, some people say that NASA launched this mission to lessen the potential effect of an asteroid impact in the near future. The goal is to conduct a re-orbit to change the path of "perilous" asteroids away from the Earth.
It is believed that they are basing their claims on a biblical passage that refers to the end of the world, which reads, “A huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turns into blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed," according to the Book of Revelation.
Nature World News also reported that, to further support this claim, a Chinese astronomer said that an asteroid called 2009ES will hit the planet soon. The killer asteroid, which is about 10-miles wide, is said to be as powerful as three billion nuclear bombs, according to the Morning Ledger.
