Alwar killing by gau rakshaks: Don't have enough manpower to control crime, says Rajasthan Home Minister

Jaipur: Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stern warning, a group of cow vigilantes have again killed a member of the minority community in Rajasthan's Alwar district.

The fresh incident of killing by alleged cow vigilantes took place in Govindgarh in Alwar district on Friday.

The man was allegedly killed on the suspicion of cow smuggling. Two other persons were also injured in the incident, IANS said.

Meanwhile, Gulab Chand Kataria, Rajasthan Home Minister, today said that the matter is being investigated and the culprits will be arrested soon.

The minister, however, regretted, that the state government does not enough manpower to control every situation in all cities in time.

The deceased has been identified as Umar, 35. He reportedly died in the firing while the others sustained bullet injuries. They were rushed to a Haryana hospital for treatment.

According to the victim's family, three persons were transporting some cows from Alwar to a village in Bharatpur. When they reached near Govindgarh, they were stopped by some "gau rakshaks" (cow vigilantes) and attacked with firearms.

Though the police, which initially remained tight-lipped about the incident, has registered an FIR in this connection and started a probe into the matter.

"The body has been referred to a hospital in Jaipur for post-mortem examination. Only after that, we will be able to know the real cause of death. We have filed an FIR against unidentified persons for murder," Anil Beniwal, Circle Office, Alwar said.

He said the body of the deceased was found near a railway track on Friday morning, and as it was not identified, it was kept in an Alwar hospital mortuary.

Umar's body was identified by the relatives on Sunday morning.

Later, Alwar Superintendent of Police Rahul Prakash said that a case of cow smuggling had also been filed.

"We have also detained one person on charges of murder. Investigations are going on," he added.

Earlier in April, Pehlu Khan was allegedly beaten to death on suspicion of cow smuggling by cow vigilantes in Alwar district.

In view of the growing public outcry over mob lynching and alleged killing by cow vigilantes, the Prime Minister had sometimes back issued a stern warning, saying there was no place for such things in a tolerant society like India.
