Japanese Princess Mako is all set to marry her commoner fiance Kei Komuro on October 26. The move comes after the couple was subjected to intense scrutiny and criticism for several years.

Mako, the 29-year-old niece of Emperor Naruhitogot got engaged to her former college classmate Komuro, 29, in 2017.
There will be no wedding ceremonies that accompany a royal marriage. “Their marriage is not fully supported by the public because of a financial dispute involving her future mother-in-law,” the palace announced Friday (October 1).

Mako to leave royal family after marriage
Mako will be leaving the royal family upon her marriage, as per customs. The princess will forgo a one-off payment of a million dollars to which she is entitled, Reuters cited media report as saying.

Princess Mako to tie the knot with Kei Komuro
Following the controversy, in 2018 August, Komuro departed to attend law school in the United States, and only returned on Monday. The couple will register their marriage on October 26, the Imperial Household Agency said. They are likely to settle in New York later this year.
