Hurricane Grace, one of the most powerful storms in years to hit Mexico's Gulf coast, unleashed torrential rains, leading to severe flooding and mudslides that killed at least eight people.

Hurricane Grace hit Mexico's Gulf coast as a major Category 3 storm and moved inland Saturday, drenching coastal and inland areas in its second landfall in the country in two days., AP reported.

Grace uproots poles, power cables and damages trees
Local authorities told Reuters Grace smashed windows, uprooted trees, power cables and telegraph poles, leaving rubble around Tecolutla. Governor of Mexico's Veracruz state said 330,000 people lost power in the storm which was gradually restored.

Rains caused by Hurricane Grace drench Mexico
According to Mexico's meteorological agency, hours before nearing shore on Friday, Grace caused strong winds, high waves and rain in the Veracruz communities of Tuxpan, Poza Rica, Xalapa and Veracruz city as well as in coastal towns in the states of Tabasco and Tamaulipas.

At least eight people, including children, died and three were missing after mudslides and flooding in Mexico, Governor of Veracruz said.

Heavy rainfall expected to hit eastern and central Mexico
The NHC predicted Grace would cause 6 to 12 inches (15-30 cm) of rain over eastern and central Mexico through Sunday and up to 18 inches (45 cm) in some areas. The heavy rainfall will likely lead to flash and urban flooding, Reuters reported.
