As India ended their 28-year-long wait of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup title this day in 2011, former Indian opener Yuvraj Singh has walked down the memory lane by sharing a picture from the match. On this day nine years ago, the Men In Blue defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to clinch their second World Cup title at a jam-packed Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. For Sri Lanka, Mahela Jayawardene (103 not out, 88 balls, 13 fours) hit a classy ton to help his side post a challenging total of 274/6.
In reply, Gautam Gambhir (97) and Virat Kohli (35) joined hand to build a crucial partnership. After their departure, the then skipper Dhoni (91) and in-form Yuvraj smashed winning runs to help India chased down the target in 48.2 overs.

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has also recalled the memory of India winning the ICC Cricket World Cup after a long gap of 28 years. He posted a picture of him, Virat Kohli and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar carrying the trophy on his official Twitter handle. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir shared a picture of Mahendra Singh Dhoni's helicopter shot that was one of the shining lights of the country's World Cup win. Dhoni, who was declared Man of the Match of that final clash for his unbeaten 91-run knock, finished off in style by smashing a six and guidinng India to a six-wicket win.
