Dropping KL Rahul and other changes Team India need to make in playing XI ahead of T20 World Cup - IN PICS

Rohit Sharma's India are done with Asia Cup 2022. It was a disastrous campaign but every disaster comes with its fair share of learnings. A bigger disaster awaits India at T20 World Cup 2022 if they don't learn from their mistakes in Asia Cup. Here are 5 changes they need to make to their playing XI to ensure India do well at the T20 World Cup. This is no formula for success but this can help India fix their process.

Call back Mohammed Shami

Call back Mohammed Shami

Dropping Mohammed Shami for the Asia Cup 2022 was already a bad decision. India lacked an experienced pacer at the start and backend. Shami has developed into a solid pacer even at the death and like former coach Ravi Shastri pointed out, it is shocking to see Shami resting his heels back home. He should be there on the the team for T20 World Cup 2022. Let's give him a good run in Australia and SA T20s to help him find rhythm. (Image source: Twitter)

Ask Virat Kohli to open

Ask Virat Kohli to open

Virat Kohli must open and then what happens to KL Rahul? You will read in next slide. Let Virat and Rohit Sharma open the innings and fire. This will give space to another strong middle order contender in the lineup. This batting order will be explain further as you go ahead in this gallery. Read on. (Image source: Twitter)

Drop KL Rahul

Drop KL Rahul

Yes, you read that correctly. If we go with his T20 reputation, it is difficult to drop Rahul but India's top 3 cannot have all 3 - Rohit Sharma, Rahul and Virat. All 3 play in similar fashion and with Rahul dropping his strike rate in past few games, barring the Afghanistan match which was inconsequential, it is time to drop Rahul. He cannot be demoted in the batting order as the middle order is already choked with abundance of talent. India needs to break this template and move, in time, to do better at World Cup. Play Dinesh Karthik in place of Rishabh Pant

Play Dinesh Karthik in place of Rishabh Pant

Let's not fix what is not broken. Thanks to his IPL exploits, Dinesh Karthik made an entry in Team India squad. Now that he is here, also in form, he is not getting games. The team management has experimented enough with Rishabh Pant in T20Is and with World Cup so near, time has come to give DK a longer run in the XI as the wicketkeeper and finisher.

In 2019, before the ODI World Cup, the same thing had happened with DK has he was part of the squad but he never got a consistent run. Let's not make the same mistakes again. (Image source: Twitter)

Suryakumar Yadav at No 3

Suryakumar Yadav at No 3

Suryakumar Yadav, your newd 360 batter, bats too lower down the order even if he is batting at No 4 in the T20Is. With Virat opening the innings with Rohit, he could come in at No 3 and get more balls to deliver an impact. Also it will break the monotony that was created with Rohit, KL and Virat in top 3. Surya is a different kind of batter and it will help India's scoring rate immensely. (Image source: Twitter)
