Which states, UTs have imposed restrictions on Christmas, New Year celebrations?

While some states have banned all kinds of mass gatherings and cultural events, some have decided to reimpose the night curfew.

Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to reimpose the night curfew in the state from Saturday.

 

The curfew will be in place between 11 pm and 5 am. An upper limit of 200 guests will also be in force for weddings and the district administration will have to be duly informed.

 

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also reportedly asked all shopkeepers and traders to follow the "no mask, no goods" policy.

Tamil Nadu

The MK-Stalin led government has banned public gatherings at all beaches in Tamil Nadu on December 31 and January 1.

 

It has also extended COVID-related curbs till December 31 and said the existing restrictions on social, cultural, and political meetings would continue.

Gujarat

The Gujarat government has extended the duration of the night curfew in eight cities by two hours. The curfew would be in force from 11 pm to 5 am instead of 1 am to 5 am.

 

The new time will be implemented from December 25 in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar. 

 

Commercial activities in shops, restaurants, shopping complexes, marketing yards, marts, hair cutting saloons, beauty parlours among others in these eight cities are allowed to remain open till 11 pm.

Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, gatherings of more than five persons in public places are between 9 pm and 6 am. Only 100 people are allowed in indoor weddings and not more than 250 in outdoor weddings.

 

For other social, political, religious events also the number of attendees should not be more than 100 and in open space, this number should not be more than 250 or 25% of the capacity of the space whichever is less.

 

Gyms, theatres, spas, hotels and cinema halls can operate only with 50% capacity. At a sports event, the number of people cannot exceed 25 per cent of the venue's capacity.

Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh has re-imposed a night curfew in the state from 11 pm to 5 am.

Karnataka

During the Christmas celebrations, mass gatherings are not allowed outside the premises of the church. Prayers inside the church are allowed, but the authorities need to ensure social distancing.

 

Large gatherings have been banned at any place across the state for new year celebrations. As for clubs and pubs are concerned, DJ music, special events are not allowed. The entry has been restricted to 50 per cent capacity. 

 

The rules will be applied from December 30 to January 2. 

Haryana

Haryana has decided to impose a night curfew and restrictions on gatherings. The night curfew will be imposed from 11 pm to 5 am from Saturday.

 

The government has restricted the maximum number of people at indoor and outdoor events to 200 and 300 people, respectively. These restrictions will come into force from Saturday and remain in place till January 5.

 

The Haryana government has also announced that eligible people who are not fully vaccinated will not be permitted inside crowded places like malls, cinema halls, restaurants and grain markets from January 1.

Delhi

The Arvind Kejriwal-led government has banned all gatherings to celebrate Christmas and New Year in Delhi. All cultural events and other gatherings have also been prohibited.

 

Restaurants and bars, however, can continue to operate with up to 50 per cent of the seating capacity. Marriage-related gatherings are permitted with a maximum of 200 people in attendance.

Rajasthan

Rajasthan has imposed a night curfew from 11 pm - 5 am.

 

The Ashok Gehlot government has also announced that COVID-19 vaccination will be made mandatory for entering and using facilities at various places in the state from February 1 next year.

Puducherry

Puducherry has extended lockdown till January 2, 2022. The night curfew will remain in place from 11 PM to 5 AM every day.

 

However, the night curfew would be relaxed on December 30, 31 and on January 1 up to 2 AM in view of New Year celebrations. The curfew would be enforced on these days from 2 AM to 5 AM.
