Night curfew returns in these states as COVID-19 threat looms large- Read here
In light of the rising Omicron cases in the country, several states imposed a night curfew to keep a check on the spread of the infections.
Night curfew in Karnataka
The Karnataka government had on Sunday imposed night curfew and other sets of restrictions amid rising Omicron cases in the state. The night curfew has been imposed in the state for 10 days from December 28. "From December 28 onwards, for about ten days to begin with, we would like to watch by calling a night curfew, invoking Section 144, from 10 pm at night to the next morning at 5 am," state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said.
Night curfew in Kerala
The Kerala government imposed a night curfew in the state from 11 pm to 5 am. It may be noted that the curfew will come in action from December 30 and will remain in place till January 2. The government also announced that all shops and establishments - including clubs, bars, hotels and restaurants - to down their shutters latest by 10 p.m. on all the four days.
Night curfew in Delhi
As the national capital is currently witnessing a surge in Omicron cases of covid-19, the Delhi government decided to impose a night curfew from 11 pm till 5 am. Meanwhile, Delhi on Wednesday reported 923 coronavirus cases, a rise of 86 percent compared to yesterday, the highest single-day jump in six months. No fresh fatality was reported, the bulletin stated.
Night curfew in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh government has also imposed a night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am. The state has also capped the number of people allowed at weddings at 200. UP CM Yogi Adityanath instructed that COVID-19 protocols will have to be followed at all times at events.
Night curfew in Haryana
Haryana government restricted the movement of people and imposed a night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am. The state also prohibited gatherings of more than 200 people in public places and events.
Night curfew in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh government imposed a night curfew in the state from 11 pm to 5 am. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "More measures will be taken if needed."
Night curfew in Gujarat
Gujarat, on December 25, extended the duration of night curfew in eight cities by two hours. As per the latest guidelines, the curfew would be in force from 11 pm to 5 am instead of 1 am to 5 am. The new time will be implemented in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar cities.
Night curfew in Uttarakhand
The Uttarakhand government has imposed a night curfew in the state from 11 pm to 5 am till further orders. The state government said that essential services - like health, movement of vehicles carrying health personnel, ambulances, postal services - will exempted from the ambit of the curfew.
New COVID-19 rules in Maharashtra
Maharashtra, which is the worst-hit state, imposed a curfew in the state prohibiting a gathering of more than five people between 9 pm and 6 am. The Maharashtra government also said that gyms, spas, hotels, theaters and cinema halls can only operate at a capacity of 50 percent.
Night curfew in Manipur
The Manipur government on Wednesday (December 29, 2021) imposed a night curfew from 9 pm to 4 am. The restriction comes just days ahead of New Year celebrations. "Wearing of face masks in public places, gatherings and crowded areas is a critical Covid Appropriate Behaviour and it should be strictly enforced and violators to be penalised promptly under relevant rules," the order read.
Night curfew in Assam
The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government in Assam announced a night curfew from 11.30 pm to 6 am across the state, though, there is no confirmed case of the Omicron variant in the state.
