Krishna Janmashtami being celebrated at leading temples across India: In Pics

Krishna Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, is being celebrated at leading temples across the country amid COVID-19 safety protocols on Monday (August 30, 2021).

Celebrations began with the blowing of conch shells and the beating of drums at leading temples, including Noida's ISKCON and Mathura and Vrindavan temples, dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna.

Hundreds of devotees offered morning prayers at Noida`s ISKCON temple on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.

Devotees flocked to the brightly decorated Iskcon temple with gaiety and devotional fervor and observed the rituals to mark the occasion.

The celebrations began with an aarti early in the morning with people fasting and singing `bhajans` (devotional hymns). Men, women and children were seen standing in queues offerings prayers.

Janmashtami is celebrated every year throughout the country to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Believers observe the day by keeping a fast and praying at the temples.

As per the Hindu calendar, Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, was born on the eighth day of the month of Bhadra. 

People visit temples to seek blessings from Lord Krishna. On this auspicious day, followers organize plays and dance events based on Lord Krishna’s life and the renowned tale of his birth is told at Hindu temples.
