A man in Siliguri, who was forced into unemployment by the COVID-19 pandemic, started an innovative business using bamboo sticks and has created jobs for others. Debashish Kundu from Siliguri was determined to continue working and provide for his family.
Who is Debashish Kundu?
Formerly a caterer, 39-year-old Debashish Kundu from Siliguri now makes water bottles from bamboo, employing other workers along.

Pandemic forced him into unemployment
"I had to shut my previous business due to COVID. Now I make eco-friendly bottles with 4000- 5000 monthly production," he said.

Sustainable living for all
Subash Sutradhar, a worker at the bottle factory said, "I lost my job in second COVID-19 wave and was very stressed as I have a family to provide for. (Kundu) sir called me and offered a job at the factory. Now I can afford to take care of my family."
