Do You Know You Can Change Your Journey Date, Name On Train Ticket With Indian Railways? Follow THESE Easy Steps

If for some reason you need to change the date of the journey and name of the passenger on a confirmed train ticket, the Indian Railways has provisions to make changes, for which specific procedures are to be followed. To know more, check next slides:

Name Change In Train Ticket: This service is restricted to the offline train tickets booked through the railway ticket counter. Notably, it can only be transferred to a close family member. For the group bookings, tickets can be transferred within the group only.

To make it happen, you need to visit the nearest railway reservation counter at least 24 hours before the train’s departure, with a written application requesting the name change and ID proofs for both the original ticket holder and the new passenger.

Date Change For Train Ticket: The modification to the journey date is available for both online and offline tickets, but the process is different for both kinds of tickets, which are explained below:

For offline train tickets, one must need to visit the nearest railway reservation office at least 48 hours before the train’s departure, with the original ticket and application requesting the date change. It will be subject to the seat available on the train for the requested date.

For the tickets booked online (via IRCTC), the date change facility is not available directly but you can cancel the existing ticket to book a new one for the desired date. This will attract the standard cancellation charges.
