Assam Floods Claim 91 Lives, Affect Over 12 Lakh People Across 21 Districts - PICS

Assam is experiencing severe flooding that has resulted in 91 deaths and impacted over 12.33 lakh people across 21 districts. Over 2.95 lakh people are currently housed in 316 relief camps. 

The floods in Assam have claimed 91 lives, with an increase of seven deaths reported on Friday. Over 12.33 lakh people are affected across 21 districts.

Major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, Burhi Dihing, Disang, and Kushiyara, are flowing above danger levels. Significant flooding has been reported in districts such as Cachar, Kamrup, Golaghat, and Dibrugarh.

A total of 2,406 villages and 32,924 hectares of crop area are underwater. Dhubri district is the worst affected, with 3,18,326 people impacted.

Over 2.95 lakh people are taking refuge in 316 relief camps and distribution centres. Efforts are ongoing to provide aid and support to the affected populations.

The floods have resulted in the deaths of 180 animals in Kaziranga National Park, including 10 rhinos. Park authorities and the forest department have rescued 135 animals, although 35 forest camps remain submerged.
