7 Temples In India Where Men Are Not Allowed During THIS Period

There are many temples in India that restrict the entry of men during specific times of the year. The customs and traditions restrict men from entering and instead welcome women to worship the deity and participate in the puja ceremonies. Here is a list of some temples in India where men aren’t allowed.

 

Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is renowned for its Attukal Pongala festival, where lakhs of women gather to offer a special offering to Goddess Bhagavathy. During this festival, men are not allowed inside the temple grounds.

Kerala's Chakkulathukavu Temple hosts a unique 'Naari Puja' ceremony, exclusively for women, when men are prohibited from entering the temple area.

The Kanyakumari Temple in Tamil Nadu is dedicated to the goddess Kanyakumari, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. Married men are not allowed into the inner part of the temple and only women can directly worship the goddess there.

Kamakhya temple in Assam is a renowned Shakti peeth in India that celebrates the menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, with the temple being closed for three days during Ambubachi Mela. Men are not allowed to enter during that period.

The Lord Brahma Temple in Pushkar, Rajasthan, prohibits married men from entering. During Kartik Poornima, an annual festival honors Lord Brahma. According to legends, goddess Saraswati cursed the temple after Lord Brahma married Gayatri, forbidding married men from entering the inner sanctum.

 

Santoshi Mata Temple in Jodhpur, dedicated to Goddess Santoshi, is closed to men on Fridays. Fridays are known as Santoshi Mata's days and on those days, men aren't allowed in the inner sanctum.

Men are not allowed to enter the Mata Temple in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, during a time when the Goddess is believed to be menstruating. Even the male priests who perform the puja on regular days are not allowed during this time. Only women can enter the temple during this time. (Representational Image)
