The Reserve Bank of India issued a warning regarding the online purchasing and selling of old notes and coins in August of this year. According to a statement from the RBI, "Some elements are fraudulently utilising the name/logo of Reserve Bank of India, and demanding charges/commission/tax from the public, in transactions connected to buying and selling of old banknotes and coins through various online/offline platforms."

The Reserve Bank of India has further said that it never seeks fees or commissions of any kind and does not deal in such things. The Central Bank stated that the RBI has not authorised any organisation, business, individual, etc. to gather fees or commissions on its behalf in such transactions.
