New Delhi: Popular Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam has taken upon fanatics over his recent azaan remark. After he tweeted about Azaan and how he is not a Muslim yet has to get up each morning to the sound of it, there has been a huge debate over it on social media platforms as well. In order to prove his point right, the singer shaved his head this afternoon in the presence of media. The Muslim cleric had promised Rs 10 lakh for anyone who would shave Sonu's head, reportedly.
According to DNA report, a fatwa has been issued by Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, vice president of West Bengal Minority United Council against the singer.
“If anyone can shave his hair, put a garland of old torn shoes around his neck and tour him around the country I personally announce an award of Rs 10 lakh for that person,” DNA quoted Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi as saying.
Now, in order to clarify his stand, Sonu Nigam organised a press conference and even tweeted about accepting the challenge. He tweeted: “Today at 2pm Aalim will come to my place, and shave my head. Keep your 10 lakhs ready Maulavi (sic).”

In the press conference, Sonu put across his point and said, “I did not target any specific religion'. He further added, “I spoke against the use of loudspeakers and everyone has a right to his opinion. I have the right to have an opinion and it should not be misconstrued. Loudspeakers are not a necessity; they are not a part of any religion,”. He came with celebrity hairstylist Hakim Aalim in order to get his head shaved and went bald keeping his word.

The singer clarified saying, “My words have been taken out of context. If I have done anything wrong, please forgive me. My intention was just to talk on a social topic and not a religious topic". The singer said it was wrong to focus on one particular tweet where he described the broadcasting of sermons on loudspeakers as 'gundagardi' (hooliganism), reports PTI. "People took one tweet of mine where I mentioned 'gundagardi' and ignored other tweets where I also talked about temples and gurudwaras," he has been quoted as saying.
"I am a secular person, a neutral person. You will rarely find people who are neutral. So, I am the minority here", he further added.
These are the tweets which created a stir on the social media:
