Sonu Nigam ‘Azaan’ tweet row: No need to fuel this anymore, says singer

Mumbai: Sonu Nigam took to Twitter Tuesday to request his supporters and critics not to fuel the controversy triggered by his ‘Azaan’ tweet where expressed his take on the use of loudspeakers at places of worship.

The singer appealed to the people not to stretch the issue anymore and just move on.

“Guys, in favour of me and in opposition, let's agree to agree and disagree. No need to fuel this anymore. Look ahead and move on. Prayers (sic),” Sonu tweeted.

Here’s what Sonu tweeted that triggered a massive debate:

“God bless everyone. I'm not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India. And by the way Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam.. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison? I don't believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity To wake up people who don't follow the religion . Why then..? Honest? True? (sic)”.

It has been over a week since Sonu made headlines over the ‘Azaan’ tweet row. A fatwa was reportedly issued against the singer and he responded to it by voluntarily tonsuring his head.

Celebrities from the film industry came out in support of the singer; a few others slammed him for the same while many remained tight-lipped.
