Revealed! This is what led to Hugh Hefner's death

New Delhi: Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner breathed his last on September 27, 2017, at the age of 91. The magazine released a statement saying Hefner died at his home surrounded by family.

Reports suggest that the cause of his death was a cardiac arrest and a bacterial infection. According to Businessinsider.in, the bacterial infection was caused by Escherichia coli, better known as E.Coli. Although most E. coli strains are harmless and often survivable in adults, some can cause complications in older people and young children as per LA Health Department death certificate reported by Los Angeles Times.

The Playboy founder's infection was listed as 'highly resistant' to the drugs reportedly. Some of the E. coli strains can cause gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections, neonatal meningitis, hemorrhagic colitis, and Crohn's disease while most are harmless.

In rare cases, it also causes bowel necrosis (tissue death) and perforation without progressing to hemolytic-uremic syndrome, peritonitis, mastitis, septicemia, and gram-negative pneumonia. Also, the bacteria is found in contaminated food or water, besides raw veggies and undercooked ground beef are its prime sources.

Septicemia was one of the other reasons reported to have led to Hefner's demise. It is severe inflammation of body tissues triggered by an infection in the blood.
