I’m not snorting drugs: Shweta Tiwari on taboo around public breastfeeding

New Delhi: Actress Shweta Tiwari opens up about the much debated topic of public breastfeeding. The mother of two points out the unwarranted glares that women get for doing something as normal as feeding their babies and questioned why people unnecessarily get uncomfortable with breastfeeding.  Shweta also emphasised the lack of public infrastructure that would enable mothers to publicly breastfeed.

“I don't know if it made anyone else uncomfortable. I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm not snorting drugs. I am feeding my hungry child. I have to do it. If someone is getting uncomfortable, I'm sorry, get up and go,” Shweta told Bollywood Bubble.

Shweta Tiwari also revealed that she was breastfeeding her son Reyansh when he was three-and-a-half years old during Covid times. “I like breastfeeding. As a mother, I enjoy doing that. I was breastfeeding my son when he was three-and-a-half years old during Covid times. It’s such a taboo, airports don’t have breastfeeding areas. They have smoking areas, though. Ladies’ washrooms have a diaper changing area, but you won’t find them in men’s washrooms. Do only women travel with children?” Shweta said.

Shweta Tiwari has a daughter Palak Tiwari from her first marriage to Raja Chaudhary. In 2007, Shweta divorced her first husband and in 2013, she got married for the second time to Abhinav Kohli. Shweta has a son, Reyansh from her second marriage. However, in 2019, Shweta separated from Abhinav Kohli and accused him of domestic violence against his daughter Palak.

Shweta Tiwari rose to fame with her popular daily soap Kasautii Zindagi Kay. She later featured in various other shows like Parvarish, Begusarai and Meri Dad Ki Dulhan. Shweta has also participated in multiple reality shows like Nach Baliye, Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi.
