GES 2017: Aditi Rao Hydari, Dr Subhash Chandra on future of Indian cinema

New Delhi:  The Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2017 saw an informative session where prominent dignitaries from the field of cinema and television graced the event and talked about the future of Indian cinema.

Essel Group Chairperson Dr Subhash Chandra moderated the session with Aditi Rao Hydari, Ronnie Screwvala and Stephanie Okereke Linus.

Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari started off by sharing her experience of witnessing a dichotomy between what she believed as an artiste and what economically was feasible in the filmmaking business. 

She said, "I had the privilege of working with the best of filmmakers. I recently worked with Mani Ratnam from South and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and both of them are amazing directors."

"India is a diverse country and I feel that filmmaking is about the vision of the director and not about geographical boundaries, religion, caste etc. It's about feelings I am blessed to have worked in different films and with diverse filmmakers who have different voices, perspectives."

Aditi said that it allows her the freedom to explore different cultures.

Essel Group Chairman, Dr Subhash Chandra talked about the time when private channels had not burgeoned in the country and only one film used to air on television. He said, "There used to be a time when only one film would be telecasted on DD, and a permission from the PM was sought in order to air another one."

The session on cinema saw the eminent personalities discuss how Indian films and television have evolved in all these years and still, there are miles to achieve.
