PATNA: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior party leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) election win to the victory Lord 'Ram' over 'HAJ' – Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakor and Jignesh Mewani.

Celebrating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) landslide victories in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, Sushil Modi took to Twitter on Monday:

The BJP, which retained power in Gujarat with 99 seats, witnessed a tough opposition from Congress. Both parties managed to increase their vote shares - BJP by 1.25 per cent and Congress by 2.47 per cent.

Speaking to media, the Bihar Deputy CM called BJP's win an answer to those who mocked demonetisation and GST by terming the latter as 'Gabbar Singh Tax' – alluding to Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP, which will form the government for the sixth consecutive time in Gujarat, faced tough opposition from various disgruntled community groupings such as the Patidars, OBCs and Dalits.

The Congress, on the other hand, received the highest tally in an Assembly election since 1990.

OBC leader Alpesh Thakor won on a Congress ticket, as did Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, who ran as an independent without contest from the Congress.

Dismissing BJP's victory in the state, Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel said, “There was no chanakya neeti, there was just money power and EVM rigging that helped the BJP win in Gujarat."
