Commonwealth Games 2022: Lakshya Sen clinches maiden CWG gold, beats NG Tze Yong in final - WATCH

Yong dominated the first game, as Lakshya tried to play catch up for most part of the game. The Indian however picked his game after the halfway stage as it was 18-18 with just 3 points remaining in the game. But Yong ensured there were not further hiccups and he won it 21-19.

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen pulled off a come-from-behind win to clinch the gold medal in men's singles final vs NG Tze Yong of Malaysia. He lost the first game by margin of 21-19 but stormed back in style, beating the Malaysian 21-9 in one-sided game. Lakshya then brought A game in third game, winning it 21-16 to grab the gold medal, his first-ever in the competition. This is India's second gold medal after PV Sindhu clinched one in women's singles final. 

What worked for the Indias was the huge backing at the venue with many Indian fans present over there, who backed the young shuttler with chants and slogans. It sort of affected the Malaysian shuttler's game.

Lakshya, however, was adamant to win today. He dominated the second game with a sensation 21-9 margin. The third game was much closer as Youg didn''t give up despite a knee injury. But Lakshya had gone in a zone where it was tough to break his attention and won the game 21-16.

It has been an incredible year for Lakshya Sen. Right at the start of the year, he won the Indian Open. So far his biggest achievements are: CWG gold in Birmingham, Asian Junior Championship bronze medal, Youth Olympics silver, semi-finals stage in BWG World Tour Finals, World Championships bronze, Indian Open title.
