Gold Coast: Olympic medalist weightlifter Karnam Malleshwari has expressed her hope to get the maximum medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2018, Queensland in Australia while placing high hopes from Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar.

While speaking to ANI, Malleshwari said that former gold medalist of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Sushil Modi "will definitely win a medal".

She further said that the Indian athletes have practiced well while assuring of a gold medal in women's weightlifting event.

"There are many events where the medal is confirmed as our athletes have given proper time for practice and also past performances will add to it. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu is a medal prospect in women's category. I am sure she will get gold" Malleshwari added.

She further stressed that there is need to work on the grass-root level to bring more Indian athletes in the limelight by giving them opportunities to participate in the sporting events.

Malleshwari believed that the Indian contingent at the games is good enough to bag a medal for India.

21st Commonwealth Games officially got underway in a spectacular fashion with a glittering opening ceremony in Gold Coast, Australia on Wednesday.

India has sent a strong 220 contingents for the multi-nation event, which will run till April 15.
