Bijepur byelection results 2018: BJD candidate Ritu Sahu sweeps Odisha bypolls, decimates BJP and Congress

BJD secured 58% vote share, followed by Congress with 33%. 

After 20 rounds of counting, BJD candidate Ritu Sahu secured 101435 votes, Congress received 59896 votes and Congress 59896 votes.

After round 19 of 21, BJD candidate Rita Sahu extends her lead to 40,248 votes over BJP's Ashok Panigrahi

After 16 rounds of counting, BJD candidate Ritu Saha is leading 93283 votes whereas BJP’s Ashok Panigarhi received 55015 votes and Congress’s Pranaya Sahu is trailing behind with 7914 votes. Others received 1,485 votes.

BJD's Ritu Shah is leading with 84,969 votes. Nearest rival BJP's Ashok Panigarhi receives 48182 votes while Congress gets 6451 votes.

BJD candidate Rita Sahu currently leading with a margin of 25,166 votes against nearest rival BJP’s Ashok Panigrahi.

BJD leading by over 3,000 votes in Bijepur

Among those contesting is Rita Sahu, wife of Congressman Subal Sahu who's death necessitated the bypoll. Rita Sahu is fighting on BJD ticket. The party has been been trying to claim the seat since last three terms. 

The bypolls to Bijepur Assembly constituency were necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu.
