Imphal: Nongthombam Biren Singh will take oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of Manipur on Wednesday morning.

Biren and one or two elected members will be sworn-in at Raj Bhavan at 1 pm, sources said.

The ceremony is expected to be attended by national as well as regional BJP leaders.

Biren Singh was unanimously elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party on Monday.

All the members of the non-Congress parties and the lone Independent have extended support to the BJP, and the Congress had not been able to increase its strength from 28.

 

The BJP had bagged 21 out of 60 seats. The Naga People's Front and the National People's Party with four MLAs each supported it. Besides one MLA each of the All India Trinamool Congress, Lok Janshakti Party and Independent had supported it. Congress has been in power for three consecutive terms.
