JCC to intensify bandh in Nagaland

The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) has decided to intensify the ongoing bandh for an indefinite period from Monday since Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang refused to step down as demanded.

Kohima: The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) has decided to intensify the ongoing bandh for an indefinite period from Monday since Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang refused to step down as demanded.

Nagaland Tribes Action Committee Kohima and JCC had set a three-day deadline on February 8 for the chief minister to step down on moral grounds' for the present turmoil in the state.

Meanwhile, JCC has decried the statements made by Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Home Minister Y Patton that it has accepted the proposal of the holding Urban Local Bodies (ULB) election with 33 per cent women reservation.

The turmoil has been trigered by the state government decision to hold ULB elections with 33 per cent reservation for women candidate. 

The chief secretary of Balochistan also confessed before the members that a committee formed on the orders of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to acquire land in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had not held any meeting, hence no area had been acquired. Achakzai said it meant that the route existed only on papers and the facts were entirely different as compared to what was being portrayed. 

"The parliamentary committee has suggested to the ministry of finance many times to release funds and complete the process of appointments in the Motorway Police. Even a report has been tabled in the Senate but there is no progress over it," he said.The committee suggested that the salaries of Motorway Police be increased by 20 per cent.
