New Delhi: Hindus across the nation are celebrating the auspicious festival of Nag Panchami. According to Hindu calendar, Nag Panchami falls on the fifth day of Shravan month. It usually comes a couple of days after Hariyali Teej.

It is believed that worshiping on this day will protect you from all kinds of snakes. Some people also mark this day as the victory of Lord Krishna over Kaliya snake. Milk, sweets, flowers and lamps are offered to serpents in order to bring good luck to one's life.

These serpent gods are worshipped on Nag Panchami: Ananta, Vasuki, Shesha, Padma, Kambala, Karkotaka, Ashvatara, Dhritarashtra, Shankhapala, Kaliya, Takshaka and Pingala.

On this day, even milk/kheer is also distributed.
