Google has finally revealed the name of the sixth version of its new Android OS – Marshmallow and has opened it to developers for testing.

The moniker for the 6.0 version of the dominant mobile computing system follows a tradition of using sugary treats for Android including Lollipop (5.0), KitKat (4.4), Jellybean (4.1) and Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0).

"Since the launch of the M developer preview at Google I/O in May, we`ve enjoyed all of your participation and feedback. Today with the final Developer Preview update, we`re introducing the official Android 6.0 SDK and opening Google Play for publishing your apps that target the new API - application programme interface - level 23 in Android Marshmallow," Android product manager Jamal Eason wrote on the Android Developers Blog.

Here is a look at five of the interesting features that the new Android OS Marshmallow will bring with it.

Fingerprint sensor: The Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come with an upgraded and better fingerprint sensor which will enables better error reporting, better fingerprint enrollment experience, plus enumeration support for greater reliability.

Doze for battery: This is an upgraded battery power-saving mode wherein the app will find out if the phone has been used or touch in a long time or not. Once it finds that out, the phone will doze off and help safe an ample amount of battery life.

App permission: Under the App permission, it will classified model for users to install and upgrade apps. This means that users will not need to grant any permissions when they install or upgrade an app. Instead, the applications will request permissions as it needs them.

Google Now on Tap: In older versions of Android, if users wanted to search things on Google Now while on other apps, one had to close that running app. However, in the new Android OS, users can ask Google Now for details of their search even without closing the running apps.
