Xiaomi launches 'Made in India' Redmi 2 Prime smartphone

New Delhi: As promised, Xiaomi has launched its first 'Made in India' smartphone, the Redmi 2 Prime which was manufactured at the company's first plant in Visakhapatnam.

The Redmi 2 Prime was announced by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Monday.

Priced at Rs 6,999, the it is an upgraded version of the Redmi 2 with the difference being the new version comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt memory; it is expandable upto 32GB via a microSD card.

Besides that difference, the rest of the specifications are the same.

As with the Redmi 2, the Redmi 2 Prime comes with a 4.7-inch IPS Sharp display with HD (720x1280 pixels) resolution and 312ppi pixel density powered by 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor coupled with Adreno 306 GPU.

It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat-based MIUI 6 and supports 4G dual-SIM functionality with both SIM supporting 4G networks.

The Redmi 2 Prime sports an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera and is backed by a 2200mAh battery.
