New Delhi: Two Indian citizens are said to have been abducted in war-struck nation of Libya, reports said Wednesday.

The Islamic State may be behind the abduction which has taken place in Sirte, reports added.

Indian ambassador in Tripoli in touch with local authorities over the matter, the government has confirmed.

"It has been learnt by our Mission in Tripoli that two Indian nationals -Pravash Ranjan Samal, hailing from Odisha, and Ramamurthy Kosanam, resident of Andhra Pradesh, have apparently been taken from Ibn-e-Sina in Sirte where they had been working, and detained...," the PTI quoted a spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry as saying.

"All efforts are on to ensure the well-being and secure early release of two Indian nationals reportedly detained in Libya," he added.

The report of abduction comes a month and half after the Indian government managed to get two of its citizens released from ISIS captivity.

Four Indian teachers working in a university in Sirte were abducted in Libya, reports said in July. Out of the four, only two were released. Fate of the other two remains unknown.

Sirte is under the control of the Islamic State terror group.
