Belgrade: The US Secretary of State, John Kerry said Washington maintains that Tibet is an inalienable part of China and does not support the independence of Tibet.
During a telephonic conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi yesterday, Kerry said the US policy on the Tibet issue remains unchanged, reports Xinhua.
Wang on his part, reiterated China`s principled position on the issue of Tibet, urging the US side to refrain from interfering in China`s domestic affairs and take practical actions to safeguard the overall China-US relations.
This development comes in the wake of US President Barack Obama`s meeting with the 14th Dalai Lama, whom Beijing considers a political exile, engaged in anti-China separatist activities under the guise of religion.
Both Kerry and Wang hailed the success of the recent US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogues and the US-China High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, which were held in Beijing earlier this month.
Kerry added, that the United States stands ready to further push forward US-China relations.Wang also mentioned that the recent dialogue has sent clear signals that both sides are committed to building a new type of `major-country relationship`.
