Ankara: Turkey's state-run news agency says a bomb explosion in eastern Turkey has wounded six police officers. The Anadolu Agency says the improvised explosive device went off today as an armored police vehicle was travelling on a road near the town of Gevas, in Van province.
The agency said the attack is believed to have been carried out by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which has led a three-decade-long insurgency in the mainly Kurdish southeast region.
The region was again plunged into violence last summer after more than two-year peace efforts between the state and the PKK collapsed.
Last week, 17 people were killed in two car-bomb attacks targeting a police bus in Istanbul and a police station in the southern town of Midyat.
