Youth carrying Rs 60 lakh cash held for travelling ticketless

During interrogation it was found that the youth was employed by a businessman of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district, an official said.

Kolkata: Held by officials for allegedly travelling without ticket in a bus, a youth was on Thursday detained by police after Rs 60 lakh in cash was seized from his possession, whose source he failed to explain.

Sheikh Yasin, a resident of Nanoor in Birbhum district, was detained this afternoon after he was caught travelling in a bus without ticket in the heart of the city, police said.

"He (Yasin) had a fight with the passengers and the conductor of the bus after he was caught travelling without ticket. He was then handed over to Maidan police station and grilled. We seized the bag in which he was carrying the money (Rs 60 lakh)," a police officer said.

During interrogation it was found that the youth was employed by a businessman of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas district, the official said.

A team of IT officials was also called in to help in the probe, the officer added.
